MNWD Joins Naga City’s Arbor Day Celebration

Representatives from various government agencies, students, youth organizations, and civic groups joined in the Massive Tree Planting Activity initiated by the Local Government Unit of Naga through the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) headed by Engr. Alexander B. Caning last Saturday, June 15, 2019 at Camp Aurora Site, GSP Compound, Panicuason, Naga City.

The said activity is pursuant to Proclamation No. 2014-003“Enjoining the active participation of all government agencies including the private sector, schools, civil society and citizenry in tree planting and declaring June 15, 2014 and June 15 of every year thereafter as Naga City Arbor Day.”

With Hon. John G. Bongat, Ms. Grace L. Cariño (PENRO) and Mr. William E. Gando, CESO VI (DepEd Naga SDS) in attendance, the event left a significant impression to all participants from different sectors due to the genuine support of key officials and collaboration of various offices to ensure the planting of 7000 endemic trees.

As a continuing support, the MNWD set-up drinking stations starting from the assembly area and along the trail going to the tree planting site. The Mt. Isarog Guardians (MIGs) were also in attendance to join the tree planting activity.

In his speech, Engr. Caning thanked all the participants and stakeholders of the Arbor Day celebration for their time and support to protect and advance the right of the people to a balanced and healthy ecology.

In this celebration, we are reminded that the trees we plant clean the air, provide home for wildlife, conserve energy, and contribute to a healthy watershed. Arbor Day is an opportunity for all of us to join together, reach across barriers to work for the common good, and give back to the environment. It’s an opportunity to celebrate life in all forms. Let us plant trees and make a good investment for our future. (Auria S. Gonzales)
