MNWD Wins LWUA’s Huwarang Lingkod Tubig Award

The Metropolitan Naga Water District (MNWD) recently garnered the Huwarang Lingkod Tubig Award as the Best Public Relations Practices on Watershed Development category for Luzon with its entry entitled: Integrated Watershed Management PR Practices.

Facilitated by the Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA), the competition was opened to all water districts across the Philippines and three were declared awardees; each winner representing Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

The watershed project through its robust PR practices has definitely helped in concretizing the objectives of the project relative to the rehabilitation, management, and protection of the MNWD watersheds within the Mount Isarog Natural Park (MINP) including the Naga River Watershed

Backed-up with an extensive campaign of a highly noble project, the watershed development program have attracted and continuously draw support from various sectors and potential investors for its implementation process.

Among the PR practices observed by the MNWD ranges from academic participation, community outreach programs, optimization of media channels, speaking engagements, public exposure, learning and development activities, partnerships, and other public services.

Since the conceptualization of the project, the MNWD have conducted various activities such as poster making contests participated by high school students; community outreach programs and tree growing together with different universities, organizations, and government agencies within MNWD’s service area; educational visits through Brigada Eskwela; revival of the MNWD’s newsletter—Bulos; utilization of online portal; radio and television appearances, and a lot more.

Through the MNWD’s intensive PR practices, the entry as adjudged winner based from the following criteria:

• Sustainability of Watershed Development Program (30%)
• Effectivity/Impact of the PR program in the community (30%)
• Socio-Economic impact (20%), and
• Effective inter-agency collaboration (20%)

This achievement is another testament of the MNWD’s effective management and excellent performance towards watershed sustainability and environmental integrity, which is very fitting to our celebration of the World Water Day 2018 with the theme: “Nature for Water.”

Present at the ceremonies held at Novotel, Araneta Center, Quezon City last March 22, 2018 to receive the prestigious award are MNWD representatives: Engr. Gilbert V.
