MNWD Guarantees Welfare of Employees amid Covid-19 Pandemic

Since the outbreak of Covid-19, the Metropolitan Naga Water District (MNWD) continues to find ways to maintain the balance between business operation and personnel welfare. Apart from giving attention to the individual customers to establish payment schemes and provide customer service, MNWD likewise gives utmost priority to its employees as we navigate the new normal.

Following Civil Service Commission’s (CSC’s) Memorandum Circular 10 s. 2020 pursuant to CSC Resolution No. 2000540 promulgated on May 7, 2020, MNWD has adopted the alternative work arrangements since it resumed operations; to safeguard the health and safety of its workforce especially those who are 60 years old and above and/or immunocompromised. Maintaining the skeleton workforce also lessens the risk of getting infected since physical distancing is maintained within the office premises.

Further, MNWD has guaranteed full compensation of its employees, which includes permanent, casual, and Contract of Service Workers (CSWs), following the skeleton workforce, as one of its priority obligations during this trying time.

Last June, the Human Resource Division (HRD) through the Infirmary Unit, administered the annual influenza vaccine (flu shot) to all MNWD personnel. This activity is one of the health benefits given to employees every year since its implementation in 2018. Another proposition that the Management would like to explore is to provide a pneumococcal vaccine as a boost to the immune system especially, now that there’s a surge in the number of positive cases in the Bicol region.

As we grapple to make ends meet under the new normal, we cannot help but feel anxious about our safety every time we go out in public. This crisis made us vulnerable not only to the disease but also to other socio-economic challenges brought by Covid-19. With these underlying factors, MNWD through its Management and support from the Board of Directors made every employee’s journey bearable. It has become our light and hope to move forward and continue to serve. (APVSGonzales)
